Sunbury wins keep racing in!

Winning races can become addictive and this weekend, more Sunbury members have caught that winning feeling!! Starting Saturday, our young gun Nathan Baker won E grade at the Northern Combine Coburg Crit. In Nathans words... "Wind up the back straight, sat in for most of the race, stayed out of the wind where possible, waited for the sprint and went straight around to win!" Great result Nathan and also congrats to Paul Morgan for 2nd.

Nathan and Paul taking 1st and 2nd on Saturday.

Tim Lier took out 3rd in C grade, great work Timo!

The Pres also got into the action taking 3rd in A grade, well done Hutchy!

New member Aaron DeBono secured 2nd in D grade. Top effort considering it was his first race ever!

We finished the weekend with another win on Sunday with Trent McCamley taking out his first B grade win also at Campbellfield with the Northern Vets. Check out this video from the rider who came 2nd capturing Trents win.

And during the week at the National Road Series Tour of Toowoomba, Sunbury CC member and resident hot shot James Butler, just kept dishing out the pain to peleton riding for Target Trek. James had a pretty impressive tour finishing 39th out of roughly 150 riders only 10mins behind the overall winner over 5 stages.

Sunbury smashes the Italo Trophy race - winners are grinners

Saturday the 4th of May saw the annual running of the Italo Trophy race at the Newham circuit. A 30km circuit that is considered one of the flatter Northern Combine circuits, however two rises do test the ability of the bunch to stay together.

For Sunbury cycling we had a 'day out' with three of the boys doing extremely well;

James Butler won the 90km A grade race, Evan Henly won the 90km B grade race and Brett Cailsley just missed the win in D grade with a gutsy 2nd. A huge win for the boys and the club. Also great to see two of our ladies racing with Heather and Caitlin well done ladies for getting amongst it. Once again great to see so many Sunbury jersey's being warn with pride by all team members.

Butler smashes the John Sewell Handicap

Congratulations to James Butler on winning the John Sewell Handicap at Broadford. The race is considered one of the hardest of the winter season, and was raced in cool and sunny conditions with over 100 riders heading off at timed intervals. James started the race off scratch (last group to leave) and completed the 98km handicap in 2hrs and 20mins averaging over 40km per hour!!

James raced over in WA during the week in the first National Road Race for 2013 for Target Trek and was feeling tired before the race, but it didnt stop him. Fellow club member Col Bell had this observation of James out on the road on his way to the win.

"When James went past me he had about 30 riders sitting on strung out single file down the road. He didn't seem to mind one bit. To top it off, he said "Col are you the front of the race?" Thanks for the compliment James but no, I'd been shelled."

We also had two team members do extremely well at the Jack McDonough trophy race season opener in D grade Patrick Edwards placed 2nd and Joshua Goodall 3rd, great effort boys well done.

Anzac Day Memorial Ride

To honour the memory of those who have served, the 2nd Sunbury CC Anzac Day Memorial Ride will be held on Thursday 25/04/2013 departing Macedon Servo (Corner of  Black Forest Drive and McBean ave) at 8.00am.
We will then ride at a quiet and respectful pace to the Memorial Cross via Waterfall Rd and the south side and hold a minutes silence to honour all who served. The idea is that we know its a tough climb, we ride it at pace that allows us to reflect on their hardship and sacrifice and allows us to ride as a group. The climb from Waterfall Rd to the Cross carpark should take about 50mins. No one gets dropped up the climb, we ride as one, slowest riders at front being supported by the stronger riders at the back. Wear your club gear if possible. Invite any friends, all welcome to ride.

For those riding from Sunbury, Depart BSS at 6.45am SHARP. AND I mean 6.45am!!
Gisborne fountain at 7.30am and Macedon Servo at 7.50am.
